In the course of recording the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a new album and change their name to a different producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a huge tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows.
